DIY Olive Oil Lavender Hops Balm

Made with a blend of olive, coconut and calming essential oils this soothing clam balm is the perfect addition to your bedtime rituals. Lavender increases slow-wave sleep which is crucial for slowing heartbeat and relaxing muscles, while ylang-ylang is effective in reducing hypertension, helping you alleviate stress and anxiety at the end of a long day. Dried hops is widely used for inability to sleep and other sleep disorders. Rub the balm on your pulse points and massage gently to release the lovely aromas and soothe you into a calm, peaceful sleep, or use during the day as a natural stress reliever.

Time: Preparation 5 minutes Cooking 40 minutes

Ingredients

1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

1/2 cup coconut oil

1/3 cup dried lavender

1/3 cup dried hops

4 TB beeswax pellets

10 drops Ylang-Ylang essential oil

5 drops lavender essential oil

Instructions

Using a double boiler, melt the coconut butter over low to medium heat. Add the olive oil and mix the two oils together. Once incorporated add in the dried lavender and dried hops.

Let the herbs infuse for 30 minutes.

Strain over a clean bowl using a cheese cloth or a coffee filter.

Clean the double boiler from any remaining dried herbs and return the oil infusion to the double boiler.

Add the beeswax pellets and stir gently until they are melted and incorporated to the mix.

Turn off the heat and stir in the lavender essential oil and the Ylang Ylang essential oil. 

Pour into a clean, air tight jar and allow to reach room temperature to solidify.

Once solidified it can be stored for a year at room temperature.

Apply a small amount of balm to your wrists and temples and massage into the skin to soothe your mind and body.
